GE Cooktop Repair in Englewood NJ

GE Cooktops have long been being integrated into kitchens for personal and industrial uses. They allow users to cook on burners using gas, electric, or induction cooking without being attached to the oven. GE Cooktops also allow for the installation of additional nearby storage, including under the installed cooktop itself. Most GE Cooktops are separate from the oven and purchased together with wall ovens. However, some GE Cooktops are available with an attached oven or can be portable to allow the user to put it in storage to create more counter space. Some GE Cooktops require specific cookware to operate. Specific GE Cooktops can be installed to handle steaming, grilling, deep-frying, or slow-cooking food.

Electric cooktops(calrod style) usually only have a few working components. The switch or control that u turn it on, the element(burner), the receptacle it plugs into, and the light to indicate a burner is on. These are a few of the problems you can have with them:

1. Element won’t come on GE Cooktop
The easiest way to check it is to swap it with another same sized burner that is working. If it works in new spot obviously the burner is good. If not, it is most likely the problem. You can also check them with a meter(usually read 20-80Ω). If it does work in different location, then either the receptacle or switch will be bad. The receptacle will physically be burnt internally to where to metal contacts inside it will look black and pitted usually(also examine the tips of the element for evidence of arching in receptacle). If the receptacle appears normal, then the control(infinite switch) is probably bad. You can check it by checking for 240vac coming to it(usually labeled L1 and L2) and then turn it on and check for 240vac going out(H1 and H2). 2. In GE Cooktop Element comes on high no matter what setting it is on
The switch is what controls the wattage to the burner. So if it only goes to high it should be a bad switch. If you need help Appliance Medic is here to help you.

3. Indicator light stays on all the time in GE Cooktop
This means the one of the switches is bad. To determine which one you can turn power off to the cooktop and then remove one switches pilot wire (labeled on switch P or Pl). Then turn power back on and see if light is still on. If not, that switch is the problem. If still on the put that wire back on switch and try another(turning power off each time).
